}}Rambantu (English: Henchman of Rama -"Hanuman") is a 1996 Telugu drama film produced by M. Chitti Babu and G. Gnaram Harish under the Vijaya Chamundeswari Movies banner, presented by Rajendra Prasad and directed by Bapu.[2] It stars Rajendra Prasad and Eswari Rao in the lead roles, with music composed by M. M. Keeravani.[3] The film was recorded as a flop at the box office.[4]

Plot

Rambantu (Rajendra Prasad), a tribal boy, is the most faithful and loyal servant to Zamindar Raja Ramachandra Prasad (Satyanarayana). Zamindar leads a happy life with wife Indrani (Y. Vijaya) and 4 children. In his childhood, Rambantu's father dies while protecting a Zamindar so, he adopts and rears him along with his children. But Indrani is a shrew who looks at Rambantu in a low profile and also troubles her step-daughter Kaveri (Eswari Rao). Though Rambantu is illiterate, he has an extraordinary talent for healing wounds and treating diseases. Meanwhile, Gireesam (Kota Srinivasa Rao) a fraud enters the Zamindar's house and mesmerizes them to take charge of his family wealth and also puts a bad eye on Kaveri. So, Gireesam hatches a ploy, makes everyone to believe that according to Kaveri's horoscope, her husband will die immediately after the marriage. Here, everyone starts blaming her, which she cannot tolerate and attempts suicide. Rambantu protects her and ties a wedding chain Mangalasutram to remove her curse. But Gireesam manipulates the situation, creates an impression that he had done the deed intentionally, they all beat him badly and Zamindar throws him & Kaveri out of his house. Rambantu migrates to Hyderabad along with Kaveri, starts a small business and becomes a millionaire with his talent. Kaveri tries to come nearer to Rambantu, but he keeps her away because he is under the impression that he will die one day, and after that, she will get a nice husband. At the palace, Gireesam bankrupts Zamindar. In the climax, Rambantu rescues Zamindar's family from the clutches of Gireesam and sees his end. At last, they learns that Kaveri's bad horoscope is a drama. Finally, Zamindar accepts Rambantu as his son-in-law and unites him with Kaveri.
