The state park is located partly in the town of Rangeley and partly in Rangeley Plantation.[4] It is managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry.HistoryThe park was created in 1960 when the Bureau of Parks and Lands made three acquisitions totaling {{convert|718|acre}}.[4] Half of the park property was donated by Oxford and international paper companies.[7] A {{convert|29|acre|adj=on}} parcel was added to the park in 2009 with the assistance of the Rangeley Lakes Heritage Trust.
