It was co-founded in 2004 by CEO Rick Field and Lauren McGrath, a former caterer.[1] It is based in Brooklyn, New York. HistoryAfter he was laid off from his job as a television producer, co-founder Rick Field turned his hobby of pickling into a business. Field had previously competed in the Rosendale International Pickle Festival in Rosendale, New York, where he had won ten ribbons by 2005. At first, Field marketed the pickles in New York City and via his website; eventually, they spread to specialty shops throughout the country.[2] In 2007, the pickles were sold in 35 states.[3] Writing of his experiences as an entrepreneur for Bloomberg Business, Field said that he was able to use his previous career in show business to good effect as an entrepreneur when he needed to collaborate or seek help from friends.[4] Following the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act, Field began soliciting for investors on his company's website, which he said led to triple the traffic to his profile on the crowdfunding site CircleUp.[5] The goal was a $1.38 million investment to for inventory and product expansion.[6] ProductsField started with family recipes and then experimented to find new flavors.[7] The pickles are artisanal, hand-processed instead of going through an industrial process.[8] Due to pricing concerns, a new product was developed, the People's Pickle, to specifically offer a lower-priced alternative.[9] References1. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.boston.com/ae/food/articles/2007/05/30/pick_a_peck_of_pickles/|title=Pick a peck of pickles|last=Levitt|first=Jonathan|work=Boston.com|date=2007-05-30|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 2. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2005/01/12/dining/12PICK.html?_r=0|title=A Man in a Pickle Jumps Into the Brine|last=Bellafante|first=Ginia|work=The New York Times|date=2005-01-12|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 3. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.bloomberg.com/bw/stories/2007-04-16/from-startup-to-success-storybusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice|title=From Startup to Success Story|last=Perman|first=Stacy|work=Bloomberg Business|date=2006-04-16|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 4. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.bloomberg.com/bw/stories/2007-12-12/when-pickles-are-your-lifes-callingbusinessweek-business-news-stock-market-and-financial-advice|title=When Pickles Are Your Life's Calling|last=Field|first=Rick|work=Bloomberg Business|date=2007-12-12|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://money.cnn.com/2014/01/07/smallbusiness/crowdfunding-investments/|title=What's the deal with crowdfunding investments?|last=Lobosco|first=Katie|work=CNN Money|date=2014-01-07|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052702304795804579097500555715202|title=Small Businesses Take Fundraising Public|last=Loten|first=Angus|work=The Wall Street Journal|date=2013-09-25|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 7. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.bloomberg.com/bw/stories/2005-11-20/not-your-grandfathers-pickle|title=Not Your Grandfather's Pickle|author=|work=Bloomberg Business|date=2005-11-20|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.wnyc.org/story/193968-last-chance-foods-rick-can-pickle/|title=Last Chance Foods: Rick Can Pickle That|last=Wang|first=Joy Y.|work=WNYC|date=2012-03-23|accessdate=2015-04-29}} 9. ^{{cite news|url=http://blogs.villagevoice.com/forkintheroad/2010/01/rick_field_of_r.php|title=Rick Field of Rick's Picks Talks Pickles, Brine Martinis, and Expensive Rabbis|last=Miller|first=Jenny|work=The Village Voice|date=2010-01-14|accessdate=2015-04-29}} External links
