Knight was drafted with pick 46 of the 2013 National Draft.[1] AFL careerKnight did not play in 2014, but played all 18 games for Adelaide's SANFL team. He impressed in the 2015 pre-season and was tipped to debut in the first round before an ankle injury sidelined him for three months.[2] On returning he showed strong form in the SANFL and was rewarded with a call up to the side to play against {{AFL Gee}},[3] but the match was cancelled due to the death of coach Phil Walsh.[4] He made his debut the next week, against {{AFL WC}}, and kicked two goals from 13 disposals.[5] Knight held his place in the side for the rest of the season, starring in Adelaide's elimination final win over the {{AFL WB}} with two goals from 15 disposals.[6] Knight played just one game in 2016, against {{AFL Ric}} in round 3, missing most of the season through an ankle injury before playing the last six games for Adelaide's SANFL side. He signaled his intentions to break into a regular role in the side in 2017, winning the club's 2 km time trial in November.[7] Knight returned to the AFL side in Round 1 of 2017 when Crows' captain Taylor Walker was injured and Knight replaced him in the team, scoring 2 goals.[8] In the Showdown against {{AFL Por}} in Round 3, received a punch to the jaw from Port Adelaide ruckman Paddy Ryder in the final quarter of the match and had to finish the game on the interchange bench, but he was not injured by the incident and returned to training that week.[9] He was struck again the next week by {{AFL Ess}} player Conor McKenna.[10] In Round 5, Knight, along with fellow Adelaide player Daniel Talia, suffered a hamstring injury, the eighth of the year for the Crows.[11] In Round 16 he was given the job of tagging {{AFL WB}} player and 2016 Norm Smith Medallist Jason Johannisen. He kept Johannisen to 16 disposals and the Crows won by 59 points.[12] At the end of the season he played in the 2017 AFL Grand Final as part of the Crows' losing team.[13] StatisticsStatistics are correct to end of the 2017 season.[14]{{AFL player statistics legend}}{{AFL player statistics start}} |- style="background:#eaeaea;" | 2015 | style="text-align:center" | {{AFL Ade}} | 39 || 11 || 8 || 5 || 62 || 74 || 136 || 36 || 26 || 0.7 || 0.5 || 5.6 || 6.7 || 12.4 || 3.3 || 2.4 |- | 2016 | style="text-align:center" | {{AFL Ade}} | 3 || 1 || 0 || 0 || 2 || 8 || 10 || 2 || 1 || 0.0 || 0.0 || 2.0 || 8.0 || 10.0 || 2.0 || 1.0 |- style="background:#eaeaea;" | 2017 | style="text-align:center" | {{AFL Ade}} | 3 || 19 || 13 || 7 || 123 || 156 || 279 || 76 || 76 || 0.7 || 0.4 || 6.5 || 8.2 || 14.7 || 4.0 || 4.0 |- class="sortbottom" | Career | 31 | 21 | 12 | 187 | 238 | 425 | 114 | 103 | 0.7 | 0.4 | 6.0 | 7.7 | 13.7 | 3.7 | 3.3 |} References1. ^{{cite news|last=Fjeldstad|first=Jesper|date=22 November 2013|title=Adelaide Crows recruit Riley Knight shocked by draft fortunes|url=http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/adelaide-crows-recruit-riley-knight-shocked-by-draft-fortunes/story-fni5f4l8-1226766088161|newspaper=The Advertiser}} 2. ^{{cite news|last=Capel|first=Andrew|date=6 February 2015|title=Injury to sideline Adelaide Crows teenager Riley Knight for three months|url=http://www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/afl/teams/adelaide/injury-to-sideline-adelaide-crows-teenager-riley-knight-for-three-months/news-story/856b32bfecdd71c75de73029acf56d18|newspaper=The Advertiser}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afc.com.au/news/2015-07-02/afl-two-in-mix-to-debut-against-cats|title=AFL: Two in mix to debut against Cats|date=2 July 2015|website=AFC.com.au|publisher=Adelaide Football Club|access-date=18 May 2016}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Ralph|first=Jon|date=3 July 2015|title=Phil Walsh murdered: AFL confirms cancellation of Adelaide v Geelong, rest of Round 14 to go ahead|url=http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/more-news/phil-walsh-murder-adelaidegeelong-clash-in-doubt/news-story/83973649bae45a26b8d2212f95d12e53|newspaper=Herald Sun}} 5. ^{{cite news|last=Hanlon|first=Peter|date=12 July 2015|title=Amid the sadness, Riley Knight's journey begins|url=http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/amid-the-sadness-riley-knights-journey-begins-20150712-giaftl.html|newspaper=The Age}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afc.com.au/player-profile/Riley-Knight|title=Riley Knight - AFC.com.au|website=AFC.com.au|publisher=Adelaide Football Club}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afc.com.au/news/2016-11-21/knights-time-to-shine|title=Knight's time to shine|last1=Gill|first1=Katrina|last2=Gaskin|first2=Lee|date=21 November 2016|website=AFC.com.au|publisher=Adelaide Football Club|access-date=27 March 2017}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afc.com.au/news/2017-03-27/knight-says-its-time-to-shine|title=Knight says it's time to shine|last=Smith||first=Ryan|date=27 March 2017|website=AFC.com.au|publisher=Adelaide Football Club}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-04-10/paddy-whack-may-see-port-adelaide-ruckman-in-mrp-strife|title=Paddy whack may see ruckman in MRP strife|last=Schmook|first=Nathan|date=10 April 2017|website=afl.com.au}} 10. ^{{cite news|last=Porter|first=Ashley|date=16 April 2017|title=Essendon Bombers' Conor McKenna faces suspension for hit on Riley Knight|url=http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/essendon-bombers-conor-mckenna-faces-suspension-for-hit-on-riley-knight-20170415-gvlorl.html|newspaper=The Age}} 11. ^{{cite news|title=Adelaide Crows nervously await scans on injured Daniel Talia and Riley Knight|url=http://www.theage.com.au/afl/adelaide-crows-nervously-await-scans-on-injured-daniel-talia-and-riley-knight-20170423-gvqxxl.html|newspaper=The Age}} 12. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-07-07/crows-evolution-creates-powerful-finishers|title=Big finish another step in Crow 'evolution'|last=Gaskin|first=Lee|website=AFL.com.au|publisher=Australian Football League|date=7 July 2017|access-date=5 September 2017}} 13. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.afl.com.au/match-centre/2017/27/adel-v-rich|title=Match report: Terrific Tigers end 37-year wait|last=Bowen|first=Nick|date=30 September 2017|access-date=17 October 2017|website=AFL.com.au|publisher=Bigpond}} 14. ^{{cite web|url=http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/R/Riley_Knight.html|title=AFL Tables - Riley Knight statistics|website=AFL Tables}} External links{{Commons category}}
