He lives in Los Angeles. Early life and educationScovel was born in Greenville, South Carolina, where he grew up, and played basketball, tennis, and soccer. He has described himself as hyperactive and a class clown.[1] Rory attended St. Mary's Catholic School, then Christ Church Episcopal School, from kindergarten through 8th grade and Greenville High School for high school.{{citation needed|date=March 2017}} Rory graduated in 2003 with a Communications Degree from University of South Carolina Upstate. While there, he played soccer for all four years.[2] A year later, he began his standup career. Rory's first film was Groom with a View2007 playing and organist in a Catholic church co starting with Vincent De Paul (actor) the comedy was shot on location in Washington D.C. lensed by director Paul Hardister. CareerScovel first performed at open mic nights in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Soon after, Scovel moved to and started his career in Washington D.C., where he performed for three years.[3] He then moved to New York City, where he performed for three years until he moved to Los Angeles where he now lives.[3] In 2006, Scovel participated in the Seattle International Comedy Competition where he made it to the finals.[4] In 2011, Scovel performed on Conan with comedian Jon Dore using the premise that the show accidentally booked two comedians.[5][6] Scovel also released his first stand-up album with Stand Up! Records called Dilation.[2][7] Scovel and the record were named by The Huffington Post as one of fourteen in their "Guide To New Comedy Albums of 2011".[8] In 2012, Scovel was named in the 10 Comics to Watch by Variety magazine.[9] Scovel has opened for comedians such as Louis C.K., Nick Swardson, and Daniel Tosh.[2][10] He has also performed at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival,[11] the FYF Fest with many other famous Los Angeles comedians,[12] the Vancouver Comedy Festival, the Del Close Improv Marathon,[13] the Bumbershoot Festival,[14] and the Chicago Improv Festival.[3] In 2013, Scovel performed a show at Third Man Records, Jack White's record label.[15] The show was recorded to tape and transferred to vinyl. There is no digital version of this recording.[16][17] PodcastsScovel currently co-hosts The Pen Pals Podcast (#growtheshow) alongside fellow comedian Daniel Van Kirk (Daniel Vaniel Kaniel).
