She lost her seat at the 2016 Assembly election.[3] A former housing officer, in 1991, McCorley was jailed for 66 years for the attempted murder of an army officer and possession of explosives.[4] While in prison she obtained a first-class honours degree in social sciences with the Open University. She holds a diploma in Irish from the University of Ulster and a post-graduate diploma in Gaeilge agus Léann an Aistriúcháin from Queen's University Belfast.[2] She served eight years of her sentence before being released under the terms of the Good Friday Agreement in November 1999. She was the first female prisoner to be released following the agreement.[4] After her release, she worked for Coiste na nIarchimí, an Irish republican ex-prisoners’ group, for eight years, before taking up a post as political adviser with Sinn Féin in 2007 working with MLAs Fra McCann and Pat Sheehan.[5] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://aims.niassembly.gov.uk/mlas/details.aspx?&aff=6011&per=2325&sel=1&ind=11&prv=0 |title=MLA Details: Ms Rosaleen McCorley |website=Aims.niassembly.gov.uk |date= |accessdate=2016-12-18}} {{s-start}}{{s-par|ni/ass}}{{succession box2. ^1 [https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18570536 Sinn Féin picks Rosie McCorley as new West Belfast MLA], BBC News, 24 June 2012. 3. ^[https://www.bbc.com/news/election-2016-northern-ireland-36212550 NI Assembly election: More than a third of seats declared as counting continues], BBC News, 6 May 2016. 4. ^1 [https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coming-home-739848.html Coming home], The Independent, 20 November 1999 5. ^Former prisoner takes seat at Stormont, The Irish Echo, 27 June 2012; accessed 23 July 2012 | title = MLA for Belfast West | before = Paul Maskey | after = Gerry Carroll | years = 2012–2016 }}{{s-end}}{{DEFAULTSORT:McCorley, Rosie}} 8 : 1957 births|Living people|Politicians from Belfast|Sinn Féin MLAs|Northern Ireland MLAs 2011–16|Island of Ireland people convicted of attempted murder|Republicans imprisoned during the Northern Ireland conflict|Female members of the Northern Ireland Assembly |
