The locality is approximately {{convert|50|km|mi}} west of Melbourne in the Shire of Moorabool local government area. The post office there opened on 12 May 1890, closed on 30 April 1962, reopened on 1 January 1946 and was closed in 1950.[2] Greystones Homestead, a historic homestead located at 565 Glenmore Road, Rowsley, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
