It is native to eastern Canada (Québec, Nova Scotia) and the northeastern United States (New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania).[1][2] The genetics of Rubus is extremely complex, so that it is difficult to decide on which groups should be recognized as species. There are many rare species with limited ranges such as this. Further study is suggested to clarify the taxonomy.[3] Some studies have suggested that R. jacens may have originated as a hybrid between R. setosus and R. hispidus.[4] References1. ^Biota of North America Program 2014 county distribution map {{taxonbar |from=Q17248376}}{{Rosales-stub}}2. ^[https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/32135917#page/181/mode/1up Blanchard, William Henry 1906.
