In France, all elected positions rerceive salaries based on the civil service index, which was established on 1 July 2010, at 45,617.63 Euros per annum.

President of the French Republic

From 2007 to 2012, the salary of the President of France was established by the National Assembly to €21194,52 per month. It consisted of a basic allowance of €15101.09, a housing allowance of €635.84, and a duty allowance of €5457.59.

On May 17, 2012, the new Prime Minister of France Jean-Marc Ayrault presented a decree reducing by 30% the salary of President of the Republic, which now stands at €14836.16. During his presidential campaign, this measure was one of the sixty promises of the candidate Francois Hollande.

Fringe benefits are these :

- Housing at the Elysée Palace- A car with chauffeur- Free access to SNCF (1st Class)- Air Transport : The Transport Squadron, training and calibration ex GAEL, with an A330-200 CJ, two Falcon 900, two Falcon 7 X, a Falcon 2000, Falcon 50, three types AS332 helicopters.- The cuisine of Chef Bernard Vaussion.- Second homes (Marigny, Brégançon Fort...).- The presidential hunts.

Prime minister

From 2002 to 2012, the salary of the Prime minister was established to 21 194,52 € per month. It consisted of a basic allowance of 15 101.09 €, a housing allowance of 635.84 €, and a duty allowance of 5457.59 €.

On May 17, 2012, the new Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault presented a decree reducing by 30% the salary of Prime ministre and ministers, which now stands at 14 836.16 €. During his presidential campaign, this measure was one of the 60 promises of the candidate Francois Hollande.

Fringe benefits are these :

- Free access to SNCF (1st Class).- Quotas for air travel.- Cars with drivers.- Mail and telephone expenses.- Official housing at the Hotel Matignon.- Second home (the Lantern in Versailles, and Castle of Champs-sur-Marne).

Ministers

From 2002 to 2012, the salary of ministers was established to 14 130.68 € per month. It consisted of a basic allowance of 10 068.40 €, a housing allowance of 423.89 €, and a duty allowance of 3 638.39 €.

On May 17, 2012, the new Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault presented a decree reducing by 30% the salary of ministers, which now stands at 9 891.48 €. During his presidential campaign, this measure was one of the 60 promises of the candidate Francois Hollande.

Fringe benefits are these :

- Free access to SNCF (1st Class).- Quotas for air travel.- Car with driver.- Mail and telephone expenses.- State-owned official housing or supported by State with an area of 80m2 maximum with 20m2 additional area per dependent child.

Secretary of State

From 2007 to 2012, the salary of secretaries of State was established to 13 825.89 € per month. It consisted of a basic allowance of 9 966.72 €, a housing allowance of 402.70 €, and a duty allowance of 3 456.47 €.

On May 17, 2012, the new Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault presented a decree reducing by 30% the salary of secretaries of State, which now stands at 9 678.48 €. During his presidential campaign, this measure was one of the 60 promises of the candidate Francois Hollande.

Fringe benefits are these :

- Free access to SNCF (1st Class).- Quotas for air travel.- Car with driver.- Mail and telephone expenses.- State-owned official housing or supported by State with an area of 80m2 maximum with 20m2 additional area per dependent child.

Constitutionnal Council

The Président of the Constitutional Council perceive an allowance of 6 950.08 €

The 8 others members perceive an allowance of 6 338.88 €

Senators

The composition and amount of benefits provided to senators were defined by an order of 1958.

The monthly salary of senators is 7 100.15 € gross per month, including :

Basic parliamentary allowance : 5 514.68 €.

Residence allowance : 165.44 €.

Duty allowance : 420.03 €.

Added to this are :

Compensation representative office expenses (expenses) of 6 412 € gross.

A budget of pay between 1 and 3 assistants (full-time) 7 548.10 € gross.

A family allowance for senators with families.

Fringe benefits are these :

Free access to the SNCF network (1st Class).

Free taxis in Paris.

Quotas for air travel.

An individual office.

Telephone lines and mails.

An allowance to assist return to employment for 3 years to ensure a gross monthly income equal to the basic parliamentary allowance, and decreasing every 6 months.

The President of the French Senate receive an allowance of 14 370.70 €.

Members of the National Assembly
