释义 |
Samuel Christy-Miller, originally Samuel Christy and from 1862 by royal licence actually Samuel Christie Miller [1] (1810–1889) was an English businessman and politician. LifeHe was the second son of Thomas Christy of Essex, eldest son of Miller Christy, and Rebecca Hawlings.[1][2] He became a partner in the hat-making firm Christy & Co.[3] Christy was related, though distantly, to William Henry Miller, who died in 1848. He inherited indirectly from Miller an estate, and a noted library, in 1852.[3][4] At that point he changed surname to Christy-Miller. Miller had been Member of Parliament for Newcastle under Lyme, and Christy-Miller also stood successfully for that constituency.[5] Notes1. ^1 University of Toronto Libraries, British Armorial Bearings. {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Christy-Miller, Samuel}}2. ^{{cite book|author=John Burke|title=A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Commoners of Great Britain and Ireland, Enjoying Territorial Possessions Or High Official Rank: But Uninvested with Heritable Honours|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=KikAAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA366|accessdate=10 May 2013|year=1838|publisher=Henry Colburn|page=366}} 3. ^1 {{cite book|title=The Gentleman's Magazine|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=ulJIAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA98|accessdate=10 May 2013|year=1849|publisher=W.
