Construction on the station began in 1992 in order for the Metro's engineers and designers to experiment and test their plans. Construction for the rest of Line 1 began eight years later in December 2000.[1] It started operations on 3 September 2005[2] as part of the line's Phase I from {{NJM stations|Maigaoqiao}} to {{NJM stations|Andemen}}.{{efn|The section from {{NJM stations|Andemen}} to {{NJM stations|Olympic Stadium}} that initially opened as Line 1 was re-designated as Line 10 when the latter opened in 2014.[3]}} Around the station
