D'Arcy competed for the host nation in the women's 400-metre freestyle at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney. She finished ahead of her teammate Kasey Giteau from the Olympic trials in Sydney, achieving a FINA A-cut of 4:11.60.[2][3][4] She challenged seven other swimmers in heat five, including China's top favorite Chen Hua and Netherlands' Kirsten Vlieghuis, bronze medalist in Atlanta four years earlier. Coming from third at an earlier pace, D'Arcy faded down the stretch to pick up the last spot in her heat at 4:18.05, more than seven seconds below the leading time set by Chen. D'Arcy failed to reach the top 8 final, as she placed twenty-seventh overall out of 39 swimmers in the prelims.[5][6] References1. ^{{cite sports-reference|Sarah-Jane D'Arcy|https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/da/sarah-jane-darcy-1.html|17 June 2013}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Swimming – Women's 400m Freestyle Startlist (Heat 5)|url=http://www.omegatiming.com/File/Download?id=000100060033000000FFFFFFFFFFFF00 |format=PDF |work=Sydney 2000 |publisher=Omega Timing |accessdate=14 June 2013}} 3. ^{{cite news|last=Quinlan |first=Paul |title=Two World Records – Thorpe In 200 Free; Huegill In 50 Fly |url=http://www.swimnews.com/News/view/1197 |publisher=Swim News |date=14 May 2000 |accessdate=16 June 2013}} 4. ^{{cite news|last=Thomas|first=Steve|title=Aussies Ready For|url=http://magazines.swimmingworld.com:9997/spipdf/ThorpeJuly00.pdf|format=PDF |publisher=Swimming World Magazine |date=July 2000 |accessdate=16 June 2013}} 5. ^{{cite web|title=Sydney 2000: Swimming – Women's 400m Freestyle Heat 5 |url=http://www.la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |format=PDF |publisher=LA84 Foundation |page=191 |accessdate=14 June 2013 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20110819181023/http://la84foundation.org/6oic/OfficialReports/2000/Masters/sw/SWresults.pdf |archivedate=19 August 2011 |df= }} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Dolan breaks own world mark in 400 IM |url=http://www.canoe.ca/2000GamesSwimming/sep17_dol.html |publisher=Canoe.ca |date=17 September 2000 |accessdate=28 May 2013}} External links
