}}Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara is a Sri Lankan politician and a Former member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka for Ampara. He was a Rear admiral in the Sri Lankan Navy.[1][2]

Early life

Sarath was educated at Nalanda College, Colombo and at Ananda College Colombo. He is also a graduate of University of Kelaniya before joining Sri Lanka Navy as an Officer cadet. He retired from Sri Lanka Navy as a Rear admiral.[5] Sarath is a brother of Major General Ananda Weerasekara. His mother Sumana Weerasekera acted as Kaththirina in Gamperaliya. Father Mendis Weerasekera soccer player.

Film direction

After the army career, he moved on to direction. He directed his first film Gamani in 2011, which is about the LTTE terrorist attack of Gonagala massacre in 1999. The film was critically acclaimed and also won many awards.
