The School of Land/Air Warfare was a Royal Air Force school based at Old Sarum in Wiltshire. Its purpose was to encourage greater co-operation between officers in the air and those on the ground. HistoryThe School was originally established at Old Sarum in 1920 as the School of Army Co-operation to provide training for air officers supporting troops on the ground.[1] This became the School of Air Support in 1945 when its remit was broadened to cover assistance by air in amphibious operations.[2] It was reformed again in May 1947, within No. 11 Group, as the School of Land/Air Warfare.[3] In March 1963 it merged with the Amphibious Warfare School (formerly based at Poole) to form the Joint Warfare Establishment.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.ww1cemeteries.com/In%20memory/miscellaneous/old_sarum_airfield.htm|title=World War One Airfield at Old Sarum, near Salisbury, Wiltshire|publisher=World War One cemeteries|accessdate=6 June 2012}} {{Royal Air Force}}{{RAF Training}}{{DEFAULTSORT:School of Land Air Warfare}}2. ^{{cite |journal=Flight |url=http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1946/1946%20-%201663.html|title=Offensive Support|publisher=FlightGlobal|date=29 August 1946 |page=207 |accessdate=6 June 2012}} 3. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.rafweb.org/Estab.htm|title=Establishments - Flying Schools and Colleges|work=Air of Authority - A History of RAF Organisation|accessdate=6 June 2012|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120620205418/http://www.rafweb.org/Estab.htm|archivedate=20 June 2012|df=dmy-all}} 1 : Training establishments of the Royal Air Force |
