Drafted from Tasmanian club New Norfolk, Direen was a defender during his time in Sydney.[2] He played 19 of a possible 22 games in 1995, the most appearances he made in a season.[3] In 1996 he added another 13 games but was not selected in the grand final team, or in any of the finals.[3] He had been badly injured that year in a game against Richmond, suffering spinal concussion.[4] Direen finished his career in South Australia, playing 114 games for Norwood, between 1998 and 2004. He won their best and fairest award in 2000.[5] References1. ^{{cite book|last=Lovett, Michael|title=AFL 2004 - The Official Statistical History Of The AFL| publisher=AFL Publishing|year=2004|isbn=0-9580300-5-7}} 2. ^{{cite book|last1=Holmesby|first1=Russell|last2=Main|first2=Jim|title=The Encyclopedia Of AFL Footballers| publisher=BAS Publishing|year=2007|isbn=9781920910785}} 3. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://afltables.com/afl/stats/players/S/Scott_Direen.html |title=AFL Tables: Scott Direen |website=afltables.com}} 4. ^The Australian, "Return takes toll on Blues skipper", 23 April 1996, p. 22 5. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.norwoodfc.com.au/HISTORY/HONOUR_ROLL.aspx |title=Norwood Football Club Honour Roll |website=norwoodfc.com.au}} External links
