Seletar Camp is a military installation used by the Singapore Army. It is located at the northern tip of Singapore, by the Tampines Expressway and adjacent to Punggol Reservoir. The main route to the camp is Seletar Aerospace Way. Seletar Camp once houses many combat engineer units. It was the home of the Command and Staff College from 1982 to 1995,[1] before moving to its permanent location at SAFTI Military Institute. It is opposite to the newly built Seletar Airport. It has officially closed down in March 2019. All units has shifted to Nee Soon Camp at Yishun. HistorySeletar Camp was built for the Royal Air Force, and it became operational in 1928. It was controlled by the Japanese during Japanese occupation of Singapore in 1942 as one of the seven Indian Army personnel interned POW camps, after the war in 1945, it was controlled by the British until 1971.[2] RAF Seletar was also on the premises of Seletar Camp. It was used by the Republic of Singapore Air Force after the British withdrawal as Seletar Airbase, and it is now a general aviation civil airport known as Seletar Airport. It is adjacent to the current Seletar Camp. Parts of the Seletar Camp were converted to normal and ordinary use, Seletar Camp formerly included hundreds of houses which served as quarters for RAF personnel. Many of the houses have been retained. Popularly known as "black and whites" they are owned by the government of Singapore, and are available for lease. A small golf course and the Seletar Aerospace Park are on the former grounds of Seletar Camp. To free up land for the redevelopment, the Army Combat Engineers Group and the sub-units were consolidated into a 30-hectare site, and the main gate was shifted to St Martin Lane. In June 2012, DSTA completed the development of the site, and achieved significant intensification through meticulous planning. The result was the consolidation of administrative, training, maintenance and recreational facilities, as well as the accommodation which was originally housed in the low-rise buildings. To minimise the number of buildings, facilities with strong functional relationships and compatible building functions were housed together, 170 old buildings together with the old Medical Centre, were consolidated into 25 new multi-storey facilities, and these were spread along the original eastern camp of Seletar. The camp at present has been reduced to 30 hectares. In March 2019, Seletar Camp will be moving from it's former location to Nee Soon Area which includes Medical Centre & combat engineer from 39SCE , HQ ARMCEG & HQ CBRE DG). A Closing ceremony will be conducted to commence the closing of Seletar Camp on 4 April 2019.
