Sheng Shi UAVs are Chinese UAVs developed by Harbin Sheng-Shi (meaning Prosperous Dynasty)[1], some of which are jointly with other establishments such as China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC) and Harbin Engineering University (HEU). As of 2013, a total of four have been publicized.

Flying Saucer

Flying Saucer (Fei-Die or Feidie, {{lang-zh|飞碟}}) is the first UAV developed by Sheng Shi, and it is a VTOL micro air vehicle (MAV). Sheng Shi spend ¥ twenty eight million to develop this VTOL jointly with the Fourth Research Academy of CASIC and HEU.[2] Flying Saucer is powered by a ducted fan enclosed in a cylindrical tube with the payload section attached atop of the propulsion section, and navigation is provided by GPS.[3] This layout of Flying Saucer makes it visually resemble a miniature version of Sikorsky Cypher.

Specification[

  • Diameter: 1.2 m
  • Weight: 10 kg
  • Speed: 0 – 80 km
  • Ceiling: 1 km
  • Endurance: 40 min

D-1

D-1 is the development of Flying Saucer with more aerodynamically refined shape, which makes D-1 more visually similar to flying saucers appear in the media. The complete name for D-1 is Single Rotor Rotary Wing Ducted Fan Unmanned Autonomously Controlled Aircraft (Dan-Jiang Xuan-Yi Han-Dao-Shi Wu-Ren Zi-Zhu Kong-Zhi Fei-Xing-Qi, {{lang-zh|单桨旋翼涵道式无人自主控制飞行器}}).[5] In comparison to its predecessor Flying Saucer, weight and maximum speed of D-1 are increased but endurance of D-1 is reduced.

Specification[

  • Weight: 12 kg
  • Speed: 0 – 100 km
  • Endurance: 30 min

Jellyfish

Jellyfish (Hai-Zhe-Tou or Haizhetou, {{lang-zh|海蜇头}}) is a VTOL UAV developed by Sheng Shi which was first revealed in 2006 during the 6th Zhuhai Airshow. Although the developer given this VTOL the English name Jellyfish, the actual meaning its original Chinese name is Bell (or Hood) of Jellyfish. Jellyfish is powered by a contra-rotating propeller mounted atop of the fuselage, while the engine and two fuel tanks are mounted at the bottom of the fuselage. Control surfaces are mounted directly below the propeller, and can be attached to one of the frames of the fuselage.[7]

Hover

Hover UAV is a VTOL jointly developed by Sheng Shi and CASIC. Externally, Hover visually resembles Allied Aerospace iSTAR UAV, and both UAVs are powered by pertro engine.[8] Hover differs from ISTAR in that instead of putting the engine and payload together in a single section above the propeller like in iSTAR, the payload and engine of Hover is separately located, with payload above the propeller, and the engine below the propeller.[9] Although the developer has given the English name Hover to this UAV,[10] the actual meaning of the original Chinese name is Chinese checkers (Tiao-Qi or Tiaoqi, {{lang-zh|跳棋}}).
