The American SD-series is based on the Siemens–Duewag U2 family from Frankfurt, Germany with the latest SD models being already assembled in California. OperatorsCalgaryIn September 2013, 60 LRVs were ordered, costing $200 million, for the Calgary CTrain;[4] the order was later slightly expanded to 63 LRVs at a cost of $201.6 million.[5] The first car was delivered on January 6, 2016.[6] San Francisco175 LRVs, totalling $648 million, were ordered for San Francisco's Muni Metro in September 2014,[7] with an option for an additional 40 exercised in June 2015.[8] Deliveries began in January 2017.
