He became the sixth Baronet on the death of his father in 1934.[2] Military serviceHe served with the Rifle Brigade until he joined the Royal Flying Corps as adjutant from 1913-14.[2] He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO) and Military Cross (MC) in the First World War. In the second world war he served with the RAF Volunteer Reserve, resigning his commission as a wing commander in 1944.
