The art of making soban, called sobanjang, is designated one of Korea's Important Intangible Cultural Properties,[4] and was sufficiently important in the past for it to have been a state-sponsored profession.[3] Soban are generally classified in various ways. Commonly they are referred to by their region of origin.[4] Another standard system classifies them by the shape and number of the legs, the most popular of which is hojokban ("tiger leg").[5] The shape of the table's surface (rectangular, circular, octagonal etc.) is also used to differentiate them.[3] References1. ^{{cite web|last1=Chung|first1=Ah-young|title=Soban: More than small tables|url=http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2015/05/641_178640.html|publisher=Korean Times|accessdate=5 June 2015}} 2. ^{{cite book|author=Kungnip Chungang Pangmulgwan (Korea)|title=National Museum of Korea|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=JJcnAQAAIAAJ|accessdate=8 April 2013|year=2009|publisher=National Museum of Korea|page=9}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|last=Lee|first=Min-Young|title=Lee In-se Exemplifies the Tradition of Soban|url=http://koreana.kf.or.kr/view.asp?article_id=7441|work=Koreana|publisher=Korea Foundation|accessdate=8 April 2013}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|title=Handicrafts: Soban|url=http://www.ichcap.org/en/archives/unescoView2.jsp?ich_name=ICH_LIST3_ENG&idx=&listLIDX=109&searchtext=|publisher=UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Centre|accessdate=8 April 2013|deadurl=yes|archiveurl=https://archive.is/20130704023747/http://www.ichcap.org/en/archives/unescoView2.jsp?ich_name=ICH_LIST3_ENG&idx=&listLIDX=109&searchtext=|archivedate=4 July 2013|df=}} 5. ^{{cite book|author=Yŏng-hak Son|title=Handicrafts of the Korean People|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=2ezbAAAAMAAJ|accessdate=8 April 2013|year=2004|publisher=다할미디어|isbn=978-89-89988-13-7}} 3 : Furniture|Important Intangible Cultural Properties of South Korea|Tables (furniture) |
