It is the sodium salt of peroxynitric acid. However, the only form of sodium peroxynitrate known to exist so far is sodium peroxynitrate octahydrate, with the formula NaNO3.H2O2.8H2O.[1] PreparationSodium peroxynitrate can be made from an alkaline solution of sodium nitrate and hydrogen peroxide. The solution is evaporated until crystals start to form, and the solution is then mixed with alcohol, causing crystals of the octahydrate to form.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite book|last=Mellor|first=Joseph William|title=A Comprehensive Treatise on Inorganic and Theoretical Chemistry, Volume 2|year=1922|publisher=Longmans, Green and Co.|location=55 Fifth Avenue, New York, New York, USA|pages=816|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=AnnVAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA816&lpg=PA816&dq=sodium+peroxynitrate&source=bl&ots=FgWOdUMiur&sig=Wb5KSnxg_XVRHgtXOJ_geWxsSHI&hl=en&sa=X&ei=-qjEULf8IMaB0QHflYCYCA&ved=0CDEQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=sodium%20peroxynitrate&f=false}} 2 : Sodium compounds|Peroxides |
