She has previously represented Bristol Academy, Cardiff City, and Liverpool. Ingle plays as either a defender or midfielder. Club careerIngle began her football career with boys' team Vale Wanderers. Despite making an appeal to the Football Association of Wales (FAW), rules prevented Ingle from playing with the boys beyond the age of 12. She spent a year away from football and then had brief spells with Vale Wanderers' girls and Dinas Powys Ladies. This preceded the teenaged Ingle's move to Cardiff City Ladies.[1] After a period in the reserves, Ingle broke into Cardiff's FA Women's Premier League team during season 2007–08. After winning the Welsh Cup twice with Cardiff, Ingle signed for WSL outfit Chelsea Ladies ahead of the 2012 campaign.[2] Chelsea manager Matt Beard deployed Ingle as a central defender and praised her impact after Chelsea's 2012 FA Women's Cup Final defeat to Birmingham: "Sophie Ingle, we initially brought in as a left back but you can see from her quality on the ball and distribution and reading of the game is good as well, she has created a few goals for us with balls in behind which something we haven’t had before."[3] In February 2014, Ingle left Chelsea and moved nearer to home by joining Bristol Academy.[4] She rose to captain The Vixens, but the club were relegated after the 2015 season.[5] Ingle became a transfer target for other clubs and decided to join Liverpool in December 2015: "Liverpool is a massive club and once I was aware of their interest there was only one team I wanted to sign for".[6] International careerIngle was called-up to represent Wales at Under–17 level,[7] and later rose to captain the Under–19 squad.[8] Ingle won her first senior cap for Wales in a 2–1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Azerbaijan, played in Baku on 28 October 2009.[9] In December 2011 Ingle was named in the preliminary Team GB squad for the 2012 Olympics.[1] She won her 50th cap for Wales in July 2014, during a 1–1 friendly draw with Scotland in Dumfries.[10] Wales manager Jayne Ludlow named Ingle the new national team captain ahead of the 2015 Istria Cup, replacing Jess Fishlock who was surprisingly dropped from the squad.[11] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.barryanddistrictnews.co.uk/sport/9440081.Barry_footballer_signs_for_Chelsea___and_is_picked_for_GB_football_squad_/|title=Barry footballer signs for Chelsea – and is picked for GB football squad!|publisher=Barry and District News|accessdate=18 February 2012|date=29 December 2011}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.chelseafc.com/news-article/article/2602625|title=THREE NEW SIGNINGS FOR CHELSEA LADIES |publisher=Chelsea FC|accessdate=22 April 2014|date=7 February 2012|author=Daniel Clarke}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.shekicks.net/flog/blogs/post/573|title=FA Women's Cup Final 2012 – Reaction from Chelsea|publisher=She Kicks|accessdate=1 June 2012|date=28 May 2012}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Perkins|first1=Rob|title=Bristol Academy sign Chelsea's Sophie Ingle|url=http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Bristol-Academy-sign-Chelsea-Sophie-Ingle/story-20572829-detail/story.html|accessdate=17 December 2015|publisher=Bristol Post|date=6 February 2014}}{{Dead link|date=February 2019 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Sophie Ingle opitimistic for Bristol Academy next season|url=http://www.fawsl.com/matchesReport/bristol_academy_women_v_liverpool_ladies_fc_04_october_2015_report.html#vwwmGM1SjqpI0Czi.97|accessdate=17 December 2015|publisher=FA WSL|date=4 October 2015}} 6. ^{{cite news|title=Sophie Ingle: Liverpool Ladies sign Wales and Bristol captain|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35120817|accessdate=17 December 2015|publisher=BBC Sport|date=17 December 2015}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Vale+hot-shot+Jordan+hoping+Sky%27s+the+limit.-a0174317807|title=Vale hot-shot Jordan hoping Sky's the limit|publisher=South Wales Echo|accessdate=18 February 2012|date=6 February 2008}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.thefreelibrary.com/CITY+SLICKERS.-a0207069769|title=CITY SLICKERS|publisher=South Wales Echo|accessdate=18 February 2012|date=2 September 2009}} 9. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.uefa.com/womensworldcup/matches/season=2011/round=2000048/match=2001149/index.html|title=Azerbaijan 2–1 Wales |publisher=UEFA.com|accessdate=18 February 2012|date=28 October 2009}} 10. ^{{cite news|title=Scotland v Wales – Women's International Friendly – Game Drawn.|url=http://www.faw.cymru/news/FAW97212.ink|accessdate=17 December 2015|publisher=Football Association of Wales|date=17 July 2014}}{{Dead link|date=December 2018 |bot=InternetArchiveBot |fix-attempted=yes }} 11. ^{{cite news|last1=Matheson|first1=Sian|title=Ingle looking forward to leading out Wales in March's Istria Cup|url=https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sophie-ingle-honoured-new-wales-8689820|accessdate=17 December 2015|publisher=Media Wales|date=20 February 2015}} External links{{commons category}}
