These programs have been recognized and endorsed by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) and the World Health Organization (WHO)[5] "Speaking Books" is a project developed by SADAG in an attempt to raise awareness and help alleviate the pandemics of AIDS, Malaria and TB in South Africa. The "Speaking Books" offer a combination of written text and short audio messages. The voices used are those of local celebrities, singers, musicians and sportsmen. While "Speaking Books" are a relatively novel form of approaching people, they have the potential to become effective tools in spreading critical health information to disadvantaged or difficult to reach communities.[6] References1. ^{{cite journal|last1=Webb-Robins|first1=Lisa M.|last2=Wilson|first2=Zane|title=Analysis of HIV Caregivers in South Africa: A South African Depression and Anxiety Group|journal=Journal of Human Behavior in the Social Environment|date=2008|volume=17|issue=3-4|page=49|doi=10.1080/10911350802067765}} 2. ^{{cite journal|last1=Shamos|first1=Janine|title=SADAG - SA's most influential mental health NGO|journal=African Journal of Psychiatry|date=September 2010|page=327}} 3. ^{{cite web|last=Chambers |first=Cassey |url=http://www.risingchild.com/group/viewgroup/56-South+African+Depression+Anxiety+Group+(SADAG) |title=South African Depression & Anxiety Group (SADAG) member group on Risingchild |publisher=Risingchild.com |date= |accessdate=2011-12-03}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.sadag.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1245:welcome-complete&catid=13 |title=South African Depression & Anxiety Group |publisher=Sadag.org |date= |accessdate=2011-12-03}} 5. ^"Full Evaluation of the South African Depression & Anxiety Group’s (SADAG) "Suicide Shouldn’t Be a Secret" Program using "Speaking Books", Books of Hope 6. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.consultancyafrica.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=736:a-novel-intervention-for-hiv-a-aids-books-of-hope-give-voice-to-new-hiv-a-aids-prevention-initiatives-&catid=61:hiv-aids-discussion-papers&Itemid=268 |title=A novel intervention for HIV & AIDS: Books of Hope ‘give voice’ to new HIV & AIDS prevention initiatives |publisher=Consultancyafrica.com |date=2011-04-18 |accessdate=2011-12-03}} 1 : Mental health organisations in South Africa |
