词条 | Southwell Methodist Chapel |
释义 |
By the middle of the 19th-century, government works and defences led to a large increase within Portland's population.[4] This increase saw a revival for the island's non-conformists, who were assisted by the help of influential leaders, as well as the available chapel-building funds available from the new money of the government works. The residents of Southwell had their own small chapel opened during July 1849.[5] Now privately owned, and functioning as a holiday let under the name "Chapel Cottage",[6] the chapel remains a modest but complete manifestation of the importance which Methodism played in the island's social history.[7] References1. ^{{cite book|last=Morris|first=Stuart|title=Discover Dorset: Portland|year=1998|publisher=Dovecote Press|isbn=978-1874336495|page=37}} {{coord|50.54356|N|2.45381|W|type:landmark_region:GB|display=title}}{{Isle of Portland}}2. ^http://www.geoffkirby.co.uk/Portland/685700/ 3. ^{{NHLE|num=1280398|desc=|accessdate=26 June 2015}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.pbenyon.plus.com/Portland/PYB/Population.html|title=Portland - Portland's Population|work=plus.com|accessdate=7 June 2015}} 5. ^{{cite book|last=Morris|first=Stuart|title=Portland: An Illustrated History|year=1985|publisher=Dovecote Press|isbn=978-0946159345|page=82}} 6. ^http://www.portlandholidaylet.co.uk/portland-holiday-cottages/chapel-cottage.php 7. ^{{NHLE|num=1280398|desc=|accessdate=26 June 2015}} 7 : Isle of Portland|Chapels in England|Former Methodist churches in the United Kingdom|Former churches in Dorset|Methodist churches in Dorset|Grade II listed churches in Dorset|1849 establishments in England |
