Televisión Española (TVE) internally selected Antonio Carbonell to represent Spain with the song "¡Ay, qué deseo!" (Oh, what desire!). The song was written by the members of the popular new flamenco band Ketama. At EurovisionCarbonell performed third in the running order, following the United Kingdom and preceding Portugal.
