Taken from Minogue's tenth studio album X,[1] the song has elements of Electropop and Synthpop. It was co-written by Klas Åhlund, Henrik Jonback, Pontus Winnberg and Christian Karlsson and produced by Swedish production duo, Bloodshy and Avant. ReceptionCritical responseThe song was received very well by fans and critics, taking a liking to the song and stating that it would've made a good single. Another person who responded well to the song was American singer Madonna, who added the song to her Celebrity playlist for iTunes [2] so the song therefore gained popularity in the US. On the season 2 premiere episode of America's Best Dance Crew, which aired on 19 June, Fanny Pak used "Speakerphone" in the Crew Choice Challenge. Chart performanceDespite never being released as a single, the song charted on the Canadian Hot 100 at number eighty-seven based on high downloads from the album. It gained popularity in the U.S. because of Madonna adding it to her celebrity playlist on iTunes in 2008. Live performancesMinogue opened her 2008 world tour performing the song with robotic type dancers and big speakers as props.[3] She used a giant hoop to lower her to the stage. She also performed the song at her North American Tour in the same sort of style but with an increased tempo (Steve Anderson remix). VideoAn international competition was held to make a video for the song. It began to trend on Twitter,[4] and was won by Hungarian animator Rudolf Pap.[5] LawsuitIn October 2013, Salsoul Records filed a lawsuit against Minogue and Warner Bros., claiming that "Speakerphone" duplicated the "entire rhythm" of the 1978 Gaz song "Sing Sing".[6][7] Charts
