LiveThe concept was first performed 14 April 1969 at the Royal Festival Hall in a show billed as The Massed Gadgets of Auximenes – More Furious Madness from Pink Floyd.[1][2] A truncated version of the show was recorded 12 May 1969 for the Top Gear radio programme.[1][2] The 17 September performance at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam is the most widely bootlegged of the shows on the tour (however, incomplete)[3] because it was broadcast by radio station VPRO.[1][2] Plans for an official live album release of The Man and The Journey were considered,[2] but abandoned because of overlap of material with Ummagumma. A recording of The Man and The Journey has been released as part of The Early Years 1965–1972 box set in November 2016.[4] Example track list (from the Amsterdam show, 1969)All songs written by David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Rick Wright, except where noted. {{tracklist| headline = Part I: The Man | title1 = Daybreak |writer1=Roger Waters | length1 = 8:09 | note1 = "Grantchester Meadows",[5][2] from Ummagumma | title2 = Work | length2 = 3:50 | note2 = Percussion and vibraphone with musical sawing & hammering | title3 = Teatime | note3 = Pink Floyd were served tea on stage at this point, similar to "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" from Atom Heart Mother | title4 = Afternoon |writer4=Waters | length4 = 5:15 | note4 = "Biding My Time", from Relics | title5 = Doing It! | length5 = 3:49 | note5 = "The Grand Vizier's Garden Party (Entertainment)" [6:12 onwards], from Ummagumma, or in some performances it was replaced by a unique combination of "Up the Khyber"[2] [from Soundtrack from the Film More] and an early "Heart Beat, Pig Meat" [from Zabriskie Point] | title6 = Sleep | length6 = 4:40 | note6 = "Quicksilver",[2] from Soundtrack from the Film More | title7 = Nightmare |writer7=Waters | length7 = 8:57 | note7 = "Cymbaline",[2] from Soundtrack from the Film More | title8 = Labyrinth | length8 = 1:13 | note8 = alarm clock sound effects, or "The Grand Vizier's Garden Party (Exit)" }}{{tracklist | headline = Part II: The Journey | title1 = The Beginning |writer1=Waters | length1 = 4:49 | note1 = "Green Is the Colour",[6] from Soundtrack from the Film More | title2 = Beset by Creatures of the Deep | length2 = 6:18 | note2 = "Careful with That Axe, Eugene"[6] | title3 = The Narrow Way |writer3=Gilmour | length3 = 5:09 | note3 = "The Narrow Way, Part 3",[6] from Ummagumma | title4 = The Pink Jungle |writer4=Syd Barrett, Mason, Waters, Wright | length4 = 4:49 | note4 = "Pow R. Sometimes, "The End of the Beginning" is cited to also include "Storm Signal", another part of "A Saucerful of Secrets".
