The area of the district is {{convert|2039|km2|sp=us}}.[3] Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Srednyaya Akhtuba.[4] Population: {{ru-census2010|58,962|;}} 55,341 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|48,555|.}} The population of Srednyaya Akhtuba accounts for 24.5% of the district's total population.
