It was built between 1918 and 1924, and is a two-story, brick Commercial Style with street level, plate-glass windows. The interior retains an Art Deco-style lunch counter and pressed metal ceiling. Sit-ins were held at the lunch counter in 1960 and 1961, to protest segregation.[2] It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.[1] References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=http://www.nps.gov/nr/listings/20141212.htm|title=National Register of Historic Places Listings|date=2014-12-12|work=Weekly List of Actions Taken on Properties: 12/01/14 through 12/05/14|publisher=National Park Service}} {{National Register of Historic Places in North Carolina}}{{LenoirCountyNC-NRHP-stub}}2. ^{{Cite web | author= Sherry Wyatt and Sarah David| title=Standard Drug No. 2| work = National Register of Historic Places - Nomination and Inventory | date =July 2014 | url = http://www.hpo.ncdcr.gov/nr/LR1437.pdf | format = pdf | publisher = North Carolina State Historic Preservation Office | accessdate = 2015-07-01}} 6 : African-American history of North Carolina|Commercial buildings on the National Register of Historic Places in North Carolina|Art Deco architecture in North Carolina|Commercial buildings completed in 1924|Buildings and structures in Lenoir County, North Carolina|National Register of Historic Places in Lenoir County, North Carolina |
