}}Stanley Tan Kheng Siong (born November 4, 1974 in Singapore) is a retired Singaporean sailor, who specialized in the Laser class.[1] He represented his nation Singapore in two editions of the Olympic Games (2000 and 2004), and has also been training throughout most of his unsuccessful sporting career for the Singapore Armed Forces.[2]

Tan made his official debut at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where he placed close to last (thirty-eighth) in the Laser class with a net grade of 275, finishing closer behind Malta's Mario Aquilina by a three-point deficit.[3][4]

At the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Tan qualified for his second Singaporean team, as a 29-year-old, in the Laser class by placing again, close to last, at seventy-seventh and obtaining a berth from the World Championships in Bodrum, Turkey. Unlike his previous Olympics, Tan posted a net grade of 322 points to upgrade his position to thirty-seventh in a fleet of forty-two sailors.[5]

Tan is one of Singapore's least successful Olympians and is affectionately known among Singaporeans as Stanley "The Tortoise" Tan due to his consistently slow regatta times. Singapore's "Golden Boy", Joseph Schooling represents the turning point in Singapore's Olympic pursuits since the post-Tan era.[6]
