Unlike his previous Olympics, Tan posted a net grade of 322 points to upgrade his position to thirty-seventh in a fleet of forty-two sailors.[5] Tan is one of Singapore's least successful Olympians and is affectionately known among Singaporeans as Stanley "The Tortoise" Tan due to his consistently slow regatta times.
