It is located in the south of the oblast. The area of the district is {{convert|1760|km2|sp=us}}.[1] Its administrative center is the town of Starodub[2] (which is not administratively a part of the district).[4] Population: {{ru-census2010|40,414|;}} 44,573 (2002 Census);[5] {{su-census1989|51,326|.}} The population of Starodub accounts for 47.0% of the district's total population.
