Strange Factories is a British drama horror film written and directed by John Harrigan and produced by the British immersive theatre and production collective FoolishPeople. Strange Factories was released on 26 October 2013.

Premise

A writer, possessed by a terrifying story, hunts for its secret heart in a mysterious landscape. He journeys into unknown, dreamlike places, haunted by the infamous Hum emitted from a strange factory.[1][2]

Cast

  • John Harrigan as Victor
  • Annalisa Astarita as Hettie
  • Rachael Blyth as Emma
  • Tereza Kamenicka as Lady Thayn
  • David Monard as Sam
  • Claire Louise Oliver as Jessica
  • Lucy Harrigan as Rose
  • Claire Tregellas as Jess
  • Mark Postgate as Arlec
  • Xanadu Xero as Marina

Production

Shot in black and white, and influenced by the phantasmagoria of theatrical performances which preceded early horror films, the production was filmed during September–November 2011 in the Czech Republic. Internal theatre scenes were shot at the King's Theatre in Southsea, Portsmouth. Post-production was completed January 2013.

The Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign exceeded its goal, with total funding reaching $12,100 on 24 July 2011, after becoming Indiegogo's Project Of The Day on 29 June 2011. Music for the film was created by composer Stephen Baysted.

Innovations

Backers of the crowdfunding campaign were given access to 'subscription of experiences' [3][4] which included transmedia content delivered by email and web page. Upon release, an immersive theatrical component will be present at cinema showings.
