It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling fish which is known from the northern Pacific Ocean, including the western Bering Sea, Cape Navarin, the Commander Islands, the Sea of Okhotsk, the Aleutian Islands, and northern California, USA. It dwells at a depth range of {{convert|2|to|710|m|ft}}, and inhabits soft benthic sediments. Males can reach a maximum total length of {{convert|30.5|cm|in}}.[3] The Sturgeon poacher's diet consists of bony fish, crustaceans such as amphipods, copepods and shrimp, and annelid worms.[4] References1. ^Synonyms of Podothecus accipenserinus at www.fishbase.org. {{Taxonbar|from=Q2484473}}{{Scorpaeniformes-stub}}2. ^Common names of Podothecus accipenserinus at www.fishbase.org. 3. ^1 Podothecus accipenserinus at www.fishbase.org. 4. ^Food items reported for Podothecus accipenserinus at www.fishbase.org. 4 : Agonidae|Fish described in 1813|Taxa named by Wilhelm Gottlieb Tilesius von Tilenau|Fish described in 1813 |
