The state park encompasses {{convert|143|acre}} on the east shore of Salmon River and shares an entrance with Machimoodus State Park to the south.[2] The park is managed by the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.HistoryThe property came to life as Ted Hilton's Vacation Hide-A-Way in 1916,[4] before becoming the Frank Davis Resort, and finally Sunrise Resort, when the property was purchased by the state in 2009 for $3.2 million. At that time, the state planned to maintain the resort as a meeting place with camping and other recreational facilities in place.[5] After failing to find redevelopers, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection demolished more than 80 dilapidated resort buildings in 2013, allowing the land to return to its natural state.[6] Activities and amenitiesThe park offers hiking trails and concessionaire kayak rentals added to the site in 2016.[7] References1. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.cga.ct.gov/pri/docs/2013/State%20Parks%20and%20Forests%20Funding%20Staff%20Findings%20and%20Recommendations%20.pdf |title=Appendix A: List of State Parks and Forests |work=State Parks and Forests: Funding |series=Staff Findings and Recommendations |publisher=Connecticut General Assembly |date=January 23, 2014 |page=A-4 |accessdate=September 8, 2016}} 2. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.ct.gov/deep/lib/deep/stateparks/maps/sunrise.pdf |title=Sunrise State Park Map |publisher=Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection |date=May 22, 2014 |accessdate=September 13, 2017}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |url=https://www.middletownpress.com/news/article/Sunrise-Resort-bought-by-state-open-to-public-11885510.php |title=Sunrise Resort bought by state, open to public |last=Church |first=Diane |newspaper=The Middletown Press |date=January 3, 2009 |location=Middleton, Conn. |accessdate=December 23, 2018}} 4. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.ctnow.com/news/hc-marteka-sunrise-state-park-0420-20140417,0,7857311.column |title=Sun rising on an unblemished state park |first=Peter |last=Marteka |newspaper=Hartford Courant |location=Hartford, Connecticut |date=April 17, 2014 |accessdate=April 18, 2014}} 5. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-marteka-sunrise-resort-future-0922-20130919-column.html |title=Sunrise just a memory: State demolishes abandoned resort|newspaper=Hartford Courant |location=Hartford, Connecticut |first=Peter |last=Marteka |date=September 19, 2013 |accessdate=September 8, 2016}} 6. ^1 {{cite web |url=http://www.courant.com/community/east-haddam/hc-marteka-sunrise-state-park-0612-20160611-column.html |title=A waterfront re-opening of hope at Sunrise State Park |newspaper=Hartford Courant |location=Hartford, Connecticut |first=Peter |last=Marteka |date=June 11, 2016 |accessdate=September 8, 2016}}
