The album was the group's final release from its original Motown tenure; the Temptations contract was terminated from Motown after release of this album. The group enjoyed the greatest creative control of their career, producing and writing most of the tracks, the album received virtually no promotional support from Motown, who didn't like the fact that the Tempts had such creative freedom over the album.
