It was described by George Hampson in 1912.[1] It is found in Nigeria.[2] The wingspan is about 24 mm. The forewings have a subbasal hyaline (glass-like) point in the cell and quadrate antemedial spots in the cell, the latter with a spot below it. There is a lunulate mark just beyond the cell composed of five almost conjoined spots between veins 3 and 8, the two middle ones larger. The hindwings have an oblique dark medial line ending above the tornus and a quadrate discoidal hyaline spot with a short dark line on its outer edge.[3] References1. ^{{cite web |last=Nuss |first=M. |display-authors=etal |date=2003–2017 |url=http://globiz.pyraloidea.org/Pages/Reports/TaxonReport.aspx |title=GlobIZ search |website=Global Information System on Pyraloidea |accessdate=March 11, 2018}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q14425051}}{{Syllepte-stub}}2. ^{{cite web |last1=De Prins |first1=J. |last2=De Prins |first2=W. |last-author-amp=yes |date=2017 |url=http://www.afromoths.net/species_by_code/SYLLDESM |title=Syllepte desmialis (Hampson, 1912) |website=Afromoths |accessdate=March 11, 2018}} 3. ^{{cite journal |last=Hampson |first=George F. |date=July 1912 |url=https://archive.org/stream/annalsmagazineof8101912lond#page/8/mode/1up |title=Descriptions of new Species of Pyralidae of the Subfamily Pyraustinae |journal=The Annals and Magazine of Natural History |volume=10 |series=8 |issue=55 |publisher=Taylor and Francis |page=8 |via=Internet Archive}} 3 : Moths described in 1912|Syllepte|Moths of Africa |
