ReceptionRotten Tomatoes, a review aggregator, reports that 45% of 29 surveyed critics gave the film a positive review; the average rating was 5.1/10. The site's consensus reads: "A story of redemption held together with flashbacks, Take has moments of emotional intensity, but is ultimately undone by preachiness."[2] Metacritic rated it 22/100.[3] Ronnie Scheib of Variety wrote, "[T]he fragmented past is far more dramatic and suspenseful than the present-day story of retribution, which creates a sense of imbalance and spiritual anticlimax."[4] Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter called it a "grueling, hard-to-take drama that is well worth the viewer's effort".[5] Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times rated it 2/4 stars and called it "a monotonous slog through dirgeland".[6] Robert Abele of the Los Angeles Times wrote, "Take is called a thriller in its press notes, but it's really one of those tragedy-under-a-microscope slogs that assumes a surfeit of storytelling angles makes a harrowing incident automatically more interesting."[7] Nathan Lee of The New York Times wrote, "If there is anything the cinema needed less than another angst-ridden, cross-cutting tragedy about crime, fate, memory and redemption, it's the kind shot in an ugly monochromatic palette suggesting a world drained of emotions and filmmakers parched of imagination."[8]References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=take08.htm|title=Take|work=Box Office Mojo|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/1178444-take/|title=Take (2008)|work=Rotten Tomatoes|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.metacritic.com/movie/take|title=Take|work=Metacritic|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://variety.com/2007/film/reviews/take-1200558745/|title=Review: 'Take'|last=Scheib|first=Ronnie|work=Variety|date=2007-06-06|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 5. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/review/take-158323|title=Take|last=Scheck|first=Frank|work=The Hollywood Reporter|date=2007-05-14|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 6. ^{{cite news|url=http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/take-2008|title=Take|last=Ebert|first=Roger|work=Chicago Sun-Times|date=2008-06-30|accessdate=2014-08-06|via=RogerEbert.com}} 7. ^{{cite news|url=http://articles.latimes.com/2008/jul/25/entertainment/et-capsules25|title=A film that's out of the bag|last=Abele|first=Robert|work=Los Angeles Times|date=2008-07-25|accessdate=2014-08-06}} 8. ^{{cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/18/movies/18take.html|title=Life Penalties|last=Lee|first=Nathan|work=The New York Times|date=2008-07-18|accessdate=2014-08-06}} External links
