Talmer Bancorp was an American bank holding company headquartered in Troy, Michigan. It was the parent company of Talmer Bank & Trust and operated banks in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. The company was founded in 2007 as First Michigan Bank.[1] As the 2008 financial crisis caused a large number of bank failures, First Michigan beginning in 2010 began acquiring failed banks in Wisconsin and Michigan. Due to the addition of out of state banks, First Michigan changed its name to Talmer in 2011.[2] In 2013, Talmer purchased First Place Bank based in Warren, Ohio.[3] The following year it sold its Wisconsin branches to Hartland-based Town Bank, a regional bank.[4] Also in 2014, Talmer acquired First Huron Corp and its subsidiary Signature Bank.[5] With additional bank purchases, it had 94 branch offices in four Midwestern states at its peak.
