}} The Tasmanian worm eel[2] (Scolecenchelys tasmaniensis) is an eel in the family Ophichthidae (worm/snake eels).[3] It was described by Allan Riverstone McCulloch in 1911, originally under the genus Muraenichthys.[4] It is a marine, temperate water-dwelling eel which is endemic to southern Australia, in the eastern Indian Ocean. It inhabits inshore waters, and forms burrows in soft sediments.[3] References1. ^Synonyms of Scolecenchelys tasmaniensis at www.fishbase.org. {{Taxonbar|from=Q1908462}}{{Ophichthidae-stub}}2. ^Common names of Scolecenchelys tasmaniensis at www.fishbase.org. 3. ^1 Scolecenchelys tasmaniensis at www.fishbase.org. 4. ^McCulloch, A.
