The school colors are maroon and orange and the mascot is a Redskin. In 2013, the school superintendent announced he would replace the mascot with one not offense to the native Shoshoni tribe who were the area's earliest known inhabitants.[3] Two months later, after intense opposition by some residents, the superintendent said the Redskin mascot would remain and the issue would be revisited in the future.[4] AthleticsTeton competes in athletics in IHSAA Class 3A and is a member of the Mountain Rivers Conference. Mascot controversy{{main|Native American mascot controversy|Sports teams named Redskins}}In June 2013 the school superintendent announced that the school would drop its longtime "Redskins" nickname, logo and mascot to show respect for Native Americans.[16] However, the decision was not immediately implemented due to the costs, and the school board has not taken any further action.[17] References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.publicschoolreview.com/school_ov/school_id/22942|title=Teton High School|publisher=Public School Review|accessdate=2012-12-04}} 2. ^{{cite web|publisher=IHSAA|url=http://www.idhsaa.org/directory/school.aspx?sid=1408|title=Teton High School|accessdate=December 4, 2012}} 3. ^"Redskins mascot to be obliterated from Teton School District," Teton Valley News, 11 Jun 2013, at https://www.tetonvalleynews.net/news/redskins-mascot-to-be-obliterated-from-teton-school-district/article_37aa981e-d2a6-11e2-89af-0019bb2963f4.html 4. ^"Redskins mascot stays at Teton High School; board tables action," Teton Valley News, 15 Aug 2013, at https://www.tetonvalleynews.net/news/redskins-mascot-stays-at-teton-high-school-board-tables-action/article_ea541580-051e-11e3-a648-0019bb2963f4.html 5. ^idhsaa.org {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120415082837/http://www.idhsaa.org/Records/1011/Football.pdf |date=2012-04-15 }} - Idaho high school football - state champions 6. ^1 idhsaa.org {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120415082808/http://www.idhsaa.org/Records/1011/CrossCountry.pdf |date=2012-04-15 }} Cross Country champions through 2011 7. ^1 2 idhsaa.org {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120415082833/http://www.idhsaa.org/Records/1011/SoccerVolleyball.pdf |date=2012-04-15 }} Soccer champions - through 2011 8. ^idhsaa.org {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120415082745/http://www.idhsaa.org/Records/1011/BoysBasketball.pdf |date=2012-04-15 }} - Basketball champions - through 2012 9. ^idhsaa.org {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120415082741/http://www.idhsaa.org/Records/1011/Wrestling.pdf |date=2012-04-15 }} - Wrestling champions - through 2012 10. ^idhsaa.org - Track champions - through 2012 11. ^1 idhsaa.org - Golf champions - through 2012 12. ^1 2 idhsaa.org - Tennis champions - through 2012 13. ^idhsaa.org - Girls Basketball champions - through 2012 14. ^idhsaa.org - Softball champions - through 2012 15. ^idhsaa.org - Girls Track champions - through 2012 16. ^{{Cite news| title = Idaho High School Drops Redskins Logo, Mascot| work = Huffington Post| accessdate = 2014-10-21| date = 2013-06-12| url = http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/06/12/teton-redskins-logo_n_3430496.html}} 17. ^{{cite news| url=http://www.tetonvalleynews.net/news/views-on-redskin-issue-largely-unchanged-since-last-year/article_6b705072-c02f-11e3-ab0b-0019bb2963f4.html| title=Views on Redskin issue largely unchanged since last year| date=April 11, 2014 |author=Scott Stuntz| publisher=Teton Valley News}}
