It is said to have been a manor house before it became a pub. It was built in the 15th century or possibly earlier, with C17 and C19 alterations and a C20 addition.[1] It has been in the same family continuously since the 18th century. InteriorThe brick building has a timber frame.[1] It is on the Campaign for Real Ale's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.[2][3] It has no bar fittings at all save for handpumps - lager is only available in bottles. HonoursIn 1990, it won CAMRA's National Pub of the Year.
