As of January 1, 2011, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints reported 47,337 members in 10 stakes and six districts, 133 congregations (67 wards[1] and 66 branches[1]), three missions, and one temple in Spain.[2] HistoryNo formal missionary work was performed in Spain until after the Church was officially recognized in 1968. The first non-US Military branch was organized in 1968 in Madrid. In 1982, the Madrid and Barcelona Stakes were organized.[2][3] The Spain MTC, located in the Madrid Temple complex, was established in 1999.[4] Missions
