|ShortSummary= The Hecks face obstacles as they prepare to drop off Sue and Axl at college. Axl has an extra week before his classes begin and doesn't want to go with the family, but Sue insists because they all went with Axl two years ago. Frankie can't bring herself to cry like she did when Axl was leaving, while Mike shows his love for Sue by trying to teach her life lessons. Meanwhile, Brick starts eighth grade and is worried when Cindy says they should take their relationship to the "next level", as he has no idea what that is. Frankie finally realizes that she's not upset about Sue leaving; she feels more confident about Sue doing well on her own away from home than she did about Axl being on his own. |LineColor=C5E384

|ShortSummary= A lonely Sue is texting Frankie at all hours because her dorm roommate still hasn't arrived on campus. Mike insists Frankie has to cut the cord with Sue, but when she does, Sue just starts texting Mike instead. Things get worse when the roommate shows up: Holly is a hard-partying junior with no interest in being studious. Meanwhile, Brick learns he has a protector at school, but gets a little creeped out when the boy starts following him around; and Axl and Hutch deal with a rash of ants in their apartment. Later, Axl invites Sue to have pizza with him and she is surprised to learn that Axl also missed home a great deal during his first couple of months on campus.

|ShortSummary= Mike and Frankie have dinner with the Norwoods, and Mike wears a Hawaiian shirt instead of one of his favored plaids. This causes surprise and shows new sides of Mike's personality, as he also buys a motorcycle. With Axl and Sue now in college, Brick realizes he's the only one who must do chores. He thus tries to clean the bathroom following instructions in a YouTube video, but ends up destroying the wall on one side of the bath. Sue is thrilled that she can sign up for whatever campus activity she likes. She goes to the activities fair with Devin Levin, telling her that Axl loves her and might even marry her one day. Devin gets scared and breaks up with Axl, who blames Sue and forbids her to talk to him. With the help of the a cappella choir she joins, Sue sings a song to Devin that suggests that Axl isn't really in love with her, Devin and Axl reconcile and agree that while in college they should just hang out and have fun.

|ShortSummary= Mike helps his brother with his new business idea: printed "rivalry" disposable diapers, but Frankie fears it will be a failure. Sue comes home and visits Brad, who learns she'd been sleeping in her car because Holly's boyfriend is always in their dorm room. Brad and Sue pretend to be a couple to make Holly leave the room, but it doesn't work. Eventually Sue works up the courage to talk about this uncomfortable situation to her RA. Axl is back home and determined to convince his parents that he should be trusted to ride the new motorcycle. He starts doing 'dangerous' things to prove he knows how to be safe. Brick is glad his siblings are home so they can help him with chores and asks for Axl's help with his new desire -- being allowed to walk home alone from the library at night.

|ShortSummary= Mike is mopey and upset but doesn't say why, so Frankie calls Reverend TimTom hoping he'll find out what is worrying Mike. It turns out Mike can't cope with Frankie turning 50, taking it as a sign they are both getting close to death. Sue organizes a tour of the East Indiana State campus for Brick. While walking Brick around, she meets Logan, whom she hasn't seen since prom. Logan asks her out, so Sue tells Brick to go to the library and wait for her, but of course she later loses him. She starts searching for Brick and is afraid she might not be able to see Logan, but he helps her look. Eventually, Sue finds Brick (it turns out there are 12 libraries on campus) but loses Logan. When Axl and Hutch try to complain to their landlord about the conditions at the rental house, they discover that they've been paying rent to a fake landlord. The real one evicts them, so Axl, Hutch, and Kenny temporarily move into the Hecks' home.

Sue comes home for Halloween, so Frankie decides they can celebrate it together and plans to take revenge against Rita Glossner. Scared when someone dressed as Death knocks on the door and keeps standing in the garden staring at the house, Axl and friends eventually pack up and flee. Brick goes to the Orson Heights part of town with Mike to get better candy and learns that there is a woman named Cindy, married to a man who loves books, looks like Brick, and whose surname is Heck. Unfortunately, she later learns Logan went to visit family in Chicago instead. Axl meets Sean and some old high-school friends at a bar, where he laments his current situation at college and shocks everyone by crying. She is then forced to go to a convention in Des Moines, Iowa and ropes Mike into going with her, given that the trip's expenses are covered. While there, the two are excited to find that the hotel room has more bells and whistles than their house. They begin raiding the room's mini bar, ordering room service, and renting movies...then later learn that "extras" aren't covered in the convention expenses. Meanwhile, the household is not enjoying Axl's company. Sue has an extra bed in her dorm room and, much to her dismay, Axl begins staying there. Her attitude soon turns around when Axl's popularity gets her noticed by the other students who visit her room. After a night of partying with the visiting students and Axl, Sue oversleeps, misses a final exam, and vomits on her professor. Grandpa Big Mike is asked to babysit Brick while his parents are out of town, but Brick soon finds their roles reversed.
