Part of the World Music Network Rough Guides series, the album contains two discs: an overview of the contemporary scene on Disc One, primarily featuring American artists, and a "bonus" Disc Two highlighting Malian Samba Touré (a reference to the commonalities between the American Blues and West African music). The compilation was produced by Phil Stanton, co-founder of the World Music Network.[1] Curation was performed by Nigel Williamson, a music journalist and author of the book The Rough Guide to the Blues.[2] The term "blues revival" refers to the resurgence of the genre after the success of Stevie Ray Vaughan.[3] Critical receptionJim Allen of AllMusic took issue with the title (claiming the genre "never went away") but named it a "pretty accurate sonic snapshot of the contemporary blues scene". He called the Malian choice for Disc Two "an interesting left-field touch".[4] Track listingDisc One{{tracklist| extra_column = Artist (Country) | title1 = How Deep in the Blues (Do You Want to Go) | extra1 = Robben Ford | length1 = 4:21 | title2 = Another Man Done Gone | extra2 = Irma Thomas | length2 = 3:50 | title3 = Ain't Got Time | extra3 = Eugene "Hideaway" Bridges | length3 = 3:32 | title4 = You Got to Move | extra4 = The Blind Boys of Alabama | length4 = 3:33 | title5 = Something Heavy | extra5 = Shemekia Copeland | length5 = 3:18 | title6 = Needed Time | extra6 = Eric Bibb | length6 = 5:12 | title7 = Monday Morning Blues | extra7 = Savoy Brown & Kim Simmonds | length7 = 5:07 | title8 = Lost in the Congo | extra8 = Doyle Bramhall | length8 = 4:32 | title9 = The Dream | extra9 = Deborah Coleman | length9 = 4:03 | title10 = Stealin All Day | extra10 = CC Adcock | length10 = 4:15 | title11 = Big Skaky | extra11 = Kelly Joe Phelps | length11 = 4:49 | title12 = Country Ghetto | extra12 = JJ Grey & MOFRO | length12 = 4:02 }} Disc TwoAll tracks on Disc Two are performed by Samba Touré, a guitarist from the Tombouctou Region of Mali who, though not related by blood, was raised as a protégé of Ali Farka Touré.[5] {{tracklist| title1 = Anbafo | extra1 = | length1 = 5:04 | title2 = Ali Farka | extra2 = | length2 = 5:52 | title3 = Mali Kadi | extra3 = | length3 = 5:19 | title4 = Idje | extra4 = | length4 = 4:45 | title5 = Man Ye Wogne | extra5 = | length5 = 4:50 | title6 = Almoude Yona Toure | extra6 = | length6 = 4:40 | title7 = Yawoye (live) | extra7 = | length7 = 2:12 | title8 = Takamba (live) | extra8 = | length8 = 5:11 | title9 = Anbafo (live Niafunke 2006) | extra9 = | length9 = 5:31 | title10 = Foda Diakaina (instrumental) | extra10 = | length10 = 4:34 }} References1. ^{{cite web | url = http://www.worldmusic.net/network/about-us/ | title = About Us - The WMN Story | accessdate = 2013-12-21 | author = World Music Network}} 2. ^ {{cite web | url = http://www.roughguides.com/website/reference/AuthorPage/author.aspx?authorID=182 | title = AUTHOR :: NIGEL WILLIAMSON | accessdate = 2014-01-30 | author = Rough Guides | archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20120307160844/http://www.roughguides.com/website/reference/AuthorPage/author.aspx?authorID=182 | archivedate = 7 March 2012}} 3. ^ {{cite web | url = http://www.worldmusic.net/store/item/RGNET1204/ | title = The Rough Guide To Blues Revival | accessdate = 2014-01-30 | author = World Music Network}} 4. ^{{cite web|last=Allen|first=Jim|url=http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-rough-guide-to-blues-revival-mw0000815454|publisher=Allmusic|title=The Rough Guide to Blues Revival|accessdate=29 Jan 2014}} 5. ^ {{cite web | url = http://www.samba-toure.com/biography.htm | title = Samba Touré | accessdate = 2014-01-30}} External links
