It was released by RCA Records as a companion record with her first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits – Chapter One, on November 19, 2012. Like her debut EP, The Smoakstack Sessions,[2] The Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2 was recorded at The Smoakstack recording studios in Nashville, Tennessee. The EP consists of six covers: "I Never Loved a Man", originally by Aretha Franklin (which Clarkson recorded with Questlove), "Your Cheatin' Heart", originally by Hank Williams, "Walking After Midnight", originally by Patsy Cline, a mash-up of "That I Would Be Good", originally by Alanis Morissette, with "Use Somebody", originally by Kings of Leon, and "Lies", originally by The Black Keys — all of which she had previously performed in her All I Ever Wanted Tour in 2009-10.[3][4][5] Track listing{{Tracklist| total_length = | title1 = I Never Loved a Man | writer1 = Ronnie Shannon | length1 = 2:47 | title2 = Your Cheatin' Heart | writer2 = Hank Williams | length2 = 2:49 | title3 = Walking After Midnight | writer3 = Alan Block, Donn Hecht | length3 = 4:01 | title4 = That I Would Be Good/Use Somebody | writer4 = Alanis Morissette, Glen Ballard,Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill, Jared Followill, Matthew Followill | length4 = 3:39 | title5 = Lies | writer5 = Dan Auerbach, Patrick Carney | length5 = 3:31 }} References1. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/25/arts/music/kelly-clarkson-and-deer-tick-new-album-reviews.html?_r=1 |title=Former ‘American Idol’ Now the Voice of Vengeance |work=The New York Times |publisher=New York Times Company |date=25 October 2011 |accessdate=5 November 2012}} [1][2][3][4]2. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1623261/kelly-clarkson-concert-giant-karaoke-party.jhtml |title=Kelly Clarkson Fans Turn New York Concert Into A Giant Karaoke Party |first=Jim |last=Cantiello |work=MTV News |publisher=MTV Networks |date=7 October 2009 |accessdate=5 November 2012}} 3. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/2011/11/kelly_clarkson_cover_songs_janet_jackson_patty_griffin.php |title=Kelly Clarkson's Seven Best Cover Songs |first=Maura |last=Johnston |work=The Village Voice |publisher=Village Voice Media |date=2 November 2011 |accessdate=5 November 2012}} 4. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://www.theboot.com/2009/12/31/kelly-clarkson-white-horse/ |title=Kelly Clarkson Takes Taylor Swift's 'White Horse' for a Ride |first=Alanna |last=Conaway |work=The Boot |publisher=AOL |date=31 December 2009 |accessdate=5 November 2012}} }}{{portal|Kelly Clarkson}}{{Kelly Clarkson}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Smoakstack Sessions Vol. 2, The}}{{Ep-stub}} 8 : 2012 EPs|2012 live albums|Covers EPs|Kelly Clarkson EPs|Live EPs|RCA Records EPs|19 Recordings EPs|Sequel albums |
