The eponymous Soccer War erupts between the Central American Republics of Honduras and El Salvador, partially as a result of a football match between teams of the two countries.[1][2] The deeper reasons for the conflict were political. The book features a collection of stories from the life of the reporter and journalist as he travels into countries such as Congo, Kenya and Nigeria, then undergoing severe conflict. Critical receptionHartford Courant reporter Dylan Foley called it "a masterpiece of war journalism."[3]Filming rights to the book have been purchased by Philippe Falardeau[4] References1. ^{{cite web | last=Lyons | first=Gene | title=The Soccer War | website=Entertainment Weekly | date=May 3, 1991 | url=http://ew.com/article/1991/05/03/soccer-war/ | access-date=2017-06-06}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Soccer War, The}}{{sport-book-stub}}2. ^{{cite web | title=The Soccer War | website=Kirkus Reviews | date=November 11, 2016 | url=https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/ryszard-kapuscinski/the-soccer-war/ | access-date=June 6, 2017}} 3. ^ The Heroic and the Bloodthirsty, Foley, Dynan, 30 September 2001, Hartford Courant . 4. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.kinoradio.pl/czytaj/informacje/Wojne_futbolowa_sfilmuje_Kanadyjczyk-4-701|title="Wojnę futbolową" sfilmuje Kanadyjczyk! |publisher=Kinoradio.pl|language=pl|accessdate=2013-02-21}} 2 : 1992 non-fiction books|Association football books |
