The plot concerns the shipwreck of the Dunbar, one of Australia's worst maritime disasters. It is considered a lost film. PlotA contemporary advertisement claimed the film featured the following scenes:
ProductionThe script, written by P.W. Marony,[3] was based on a popular play which had been performed since the 1880s.[4] The film was the sole feature produced by Universal Films Ltd, a company formed in Sydney in May 1912 (which had no connection to the Hollywood Studio of the same name). It took over the assets of American Australasian Film Service and Australian Life Biograph with the intention of producing and importing movies.[5][6] ReceptionThe film appears to have been successful, running for three weeks in Sydney.[7] A few years after the film was released the sole survivor of the Dunbar died.[8] References1. ^on{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article26523882 |title=Advertising. |newspaper=The West Australian |location=Perth |date=16 October 1912 |accessdate=24 January 2012 |page=2 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 2. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article28129486 |title=Advertising. |newspaper=The Sydney Morning Herald |date=7 June 1912 |accessdate=24 January 2012 |page=2 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 3. ^http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/228865391?searchTerm=marony&searchLimits=l-availability=y|||l-australian=y# 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13648048 |title=THE ROYAL STANDARD THEATRE.—" THE WRECK OF THE DUNBAR.". |newspaper=The Sydney Morning Herald |date=5 September 1887 |accessdate=25 January 2012 |page=5 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article15319733 |title=UNIVERSAL FILMS, LTD. |newspaper=The Sydney Morning Herald |date=23 March 1912 |accessdate=25 January 2012 |page=23 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article58185524 |title=PLAYS PLAYERS VAUDEVILLE & MOTION PICTURES. |newspaper=The Mail |location=Adelaide |date=18 May 1912 |accessdate=25 January 2012 |page=6 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 7. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article26523919 |title=ENTERTAINMENTS. |newspaper=The West Australian |location=Perth |date=16 October 1912 |accessdate=25 January 2012 |page=8 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} 8. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article20038848 |title=The Dunbar's Sole Survivor. |newspaper=The Brisbane Courier |date=15 April 1915 |accessdate=25 January 2012 |page=6 |publisher=National Library of Australia}} External links
