in the West Riding of Yorkshire, and a Conservative Party politician. He unsuccessfully contested Wakefield at the 1868 general election, when he was beaten by the Liberal Party candidate Somerset Beaumont.[3] He did not stand in 1874, when the Conservative candidate Edward Green defeated Beaumont. However, Green's election was voided on petition (due to bribery), and at the resulting by-election in May 1874, he won the seat.[3] He was defeated at the 1880 general election by the Liberal candidate Robert Bownas Mackie,[3] another local corn merchant,[2] who Sanderson had defeated in 1874. He did not stand again.[3] References1. ^{{Rayment-hc|w|1|date=June 2014}} 2. ^1 {{cite web | url = http://find.galegroup.com/ttda/infomark.do?&source=gale&prodId=TTDA&userGroupName=lancs&tabID=T003&docPage=article&searchType=&docId=CS119321245&type=multipage&contentSet=LTO&version=1.0 | title = The Representation Of Wakefield | newspaper = The Times | location = London, England | date = 29 April 1874 | issue = 27989 | page = 7 | publisher = The Times Digital Archive | accessdate = 24 June 2014}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite book |last=Craig |first=F.
