He served as Director of Rugby for the Tasman Rugby Union before being appointed to succeed Robbie Deans as coach of Super Rugby team the Crusaders.[1] His nickname is "Toddy". PlayerBlackadder first played for Woodend, near Rangiora which kicked off his rugby union career. He also played 7's for New Zealand in the inaugural world cup held at Murrayfield. Blackadder played for the All Blacks 25 times, including 14 as captain. He also played for the Crusaders at lock. Among his achievements as a player were captaincy of the New Zealand All Blacks, the Crusaders Super 12 team, and the Canterbury provincial team. He also played 9 games for Nelson Bays in 1990. He then continued to play professionally in Scotland as the captain of the Edinburgh Gunners. CoachBlackadder was the first assistant forwards coach of Scotland's first foreign head coach Matt Williams, and became the forwards coach of the Edinburgh Gunners under Frank Hadden. He now serves as the Director of Rugby for the Tasman Rugby Union in the National Provincial Championship. He was also part of the coaching team for the Crusaders.[2] In October 2007 he was appointed coach of the Tasman Makos for the 2008 Air New Zealand Cup.[3] Blackadder was appointed to become coach of the Crusaders on 23 July 2008.
