Since 2005, Tramea loewii has also been recorded in New Zealand.[5] DescriptionTramea loewii is a medium to large dragonfly (wingspan 85 mm, length 45 mm). The synthorax is striped yellowish to brown on a purplish background. The abdomen is red with the last two segments having black markings. There are dark patches at the base of its hindwings. The female is a duller brown. Tramea loewii is very similar to Tramea stenoloba which has a darker synthorax, and larger genital dimensions.[5]HabitatTramea loewii inhabits a wide range of still waters, ponds and swamps, and may breed many times in a year. In Australia it is widespread except for the far south-west of the continent.[5]GalleryReferences{{Commons category}}{{Wikispecies}}1. ^{{cite journal|author=Rowe, R.|author2=Marinov, M.|last-author-amp=yes |title=Tramea loewii|journal=IUCN Red List of Threatened Species|volume=2013|page=e.T197100A2480630|publisher=IUCN|date=2013|url=http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/197100/0|doi=10.2305/IUCN.UK.2013-1.RLTS.T197100A2480630.en|access-date=19 December 2017}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q2463844}}2. ^{{Cite journal|last=Brauer|first=Friedrich|last2=Kaup|first2=J.J.|year=1866|title=Beschreibungen neuer exotischer Libellen|url=https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/page/26723790|journal=Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien|language=German |volume=16|pages=563–570 [563]|via=Biodiversity Heritage Library}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://biodiversity.org.au/afd/taxa/Tramea_loewii|title=Species Tramea loewii Kaup, 1866|last=|first=|date=2013|website=Australian Faunal Directory|publisher=Australian Biological Resources Study|access-date=27 January 2017}} 4. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.pugetsound.edu/academics/academic-resources/slater-museum/biodiversity-resources/dragonflies/world-odonata-list2/|title=World Odonata List|first=Martin|first2=Dennis|date=|website=Slater Museum of Natural History|publisher=University of Puget Sound|dead-url=|author1=Schorr|author2=Paulson|accessdate=2 March 2017|archiveurl=|archivedate=}} 5. ^1 2 {{cite book |title=The Complete Field Guide to Dragonflies of Australia |last=Theischinger |first=G |last2=Hawking |first2=J |year=2006 |publisher=CSIRO Publishing |location=Collingwood Vic. |isbn=978 0 64309 073 6 |page=296}} 10 : Libellulidae|Odonata of Oceania|Odonata of Australia|Odonata of New Zealand|Insects of New Guinea|Insects of Indonesia|Insects of Southeast Asia|Insects of New Caledonia|Taxa named by Johann Jakob Kaup|Insects described in 1866 |
